Earth vs. Space Monster Zygan

Once upon a time there was a giant space monster who was hungry and decided that the planet Earth would make a good meal.

Little did the monster know, however, that Earth was not as easy of prey as it initially appeared. A young warrior named Hiro, floating in Earth orbit, was using his spacesuit's sensor and video feed system to watch the monster as he entered the Sol system. With this battle-equipped suit and his own talent, training and tactical wizardry, he was confident he could stop the monster from devouring the Earth.

"This is Red 9 to Command. Come in, Command," said Hiro into his wristcom.

A few seconds passed in silence. Then suddenly--

"Yes, Hiro," said a staticy voice from his earpiece. "This is Command. Go ahead."

"I've spotted the creature on my long-range scanners," reported Hiro. "In a minute I'll proceed to the planned ambush point. He won't get by me."

"Don't get too cocky, kid. The suit doesn't make you invulnerable. Harder to kill, but not impossible. Be careful."

"I know. Sheesh. Can't a guy strut his stuff a little?"

Annoyed, Hiro flicked off the wristcom, ending the conversation.

He was sure he would be scolded later for it. But now, he had work to do. He had to save the planet Earth.

Activating his impulse jets, he accelerated toward the asteroid belt. His hiding place was already picked out. The creature would not know he was there until it was too late.

Or so he hoped.
